Getting Started!

The first time I walked into a classroom where toddlers were exploring and learning, I was overwhelmed to say the least.

I learned a lot in my time teaching toddlers and the first lesson was how to handle the mess.

1. Have a space where it's ok to get messy. We got a picnic blanket with a plastic top so it was easy to wipe. We use it for everything! The bathtub is also a great place to start since you can easily wash it out!

2. Carpet is actually great for things that can be vacuumed! It's super hard to sweep up things like rice and sand efficiently! As a bonus the Bug is OBSESSED with the vacuum cleaner!

3. Outside is always an option! Well during the winter with an infant might not be the best time to play outside but otherwise, outside!

4. Start small! We use small bins I got on clearance at Target for most play though now that the Bug sits independently, we also use an under bed storage box (flat but wide) so he can really dig in but the mess is a bit more contained!

5. Food is a good starting point- you know it's non toxic and it's a new experience for baby! Check out the Bug's food exploration here

6. Check out the Bug's first sensory experience with Rice!
